Sprayers come in handy for many jobs around the yard. Lawn care, gardening,
sidewalk and driveway weed control, and the spraying of shrubs and
fruit trees are some of the areas where you will enjoy the convenience
of an efficient sprayer. When it comes to lawn care, spraying is an
especially easy alernative to pushing a spreader. You can spray fertilizers,
herbicides, or weed & feed mixtures in a fraction of the time
necessary for spreading.
Sprayers Available For Yard Care
Yard care sprayers are available in a wide range of sizes to accommodate
every yard job. There are single-action hand sprayers, continuous-action
hand sprayers, hose-end sprayers, hand-held sprayers and hand dusters.
Examples include the Chapin model 1002 hand-held sprayer for small
areas in the garden and the Chapin model 6006 hose-end sprayer, a
6-gallon capacity sprayer ideal for applying herbicides to broad leaf
weeds.
Fertilizing With Your Sprayer
Fertilize your lawn every spring with a liquid fertilizer. Use a hose-end
sprayer such as the Chapin Models 6006 and 6007. These sprayers connect
easily to your garden hose. Walk in straight lines across your lawn,
spraying the fertilizer back and forth in front of you. Walk at a
slow pace to ensure that your lawn will be thoroughly fertilized.
After fertilizing, clean your sprayer by rinsing thoroughly with water to
prevent corrosion of parts. For more detailed information on sprayer cleaning,

Lawn Mainenance
Spraying is an extremely efficient method of weed control. You can
use a post-emergent herbicide to spot treat individual weeds like
dandelions, crabgrass and chickweed. A sprayer such as the Chapin
Model 2101 is perfect for individual weed control.
Spraying is also the preferred method of controlling lawn insects such as
mites, whitegrubs, billbugs, cinch bugs, and sod webworms. When spraying mites,
be sure to use a miticide rather than a common insecticide, since an insecticide
will only kill insects that feed on mites, not the mites themselves.
Spraying Tips For Yard Care Work
-
Mix all chemicals outside.
-
Be sure to wear protective goggles, long pants, a
long-sleeved shirt, rubber or plastic gloves, and sturdy
shoes before beginning to spray.
-
To prevent unwanted spraying of trees and shrubs, avoid
spraying herbicides or pesticides on windy days.
-
Exercise extreme caution when using pesticides hazardous to
birds, earthworms, or other beneficial animals.
-
Store chemicals in a place safe from curious children and
pets. Also keep them well away from barbecue grills or other
food preparation equipment.
Warning
Read All Warnings and Precautions Carefully!
When activated, most sprayers contain chemicals under pressure. For
the safety of the sprayer operator and everyone in the area of spraying,
be sure you read and understand all warnings and safety precautions
included in the operating instructions or posted on the equipment.
